WhatsApp Beta Introduces Screen Sharing During Video Calls

Amid rising of video calling cum screen-sharing platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, Slack, Skype, etc. Whatsapp also introduced a screen-sharing feature during video calls to all the beta users. In a recent tweet  (@WABetaInfo), the Meta-owned company revealed that all the best testers on the Android platform could use this amazing feature and share their screens. Using this latest feature, users can share the content on the screen with the other person on the video call.

According to WABetaInfo’s tweet, the screen-sharing feature is only for Android beta testers who are using Whatsapp Beta for Android 2.23.11.19. After installing the WhatsApp beta version, users can find the new screen-sharing option on the bottom tab, right next to the toggle camera button. Is WhatsApp Screen Sharing Feature Safe?

Yes, screen sharing during video calls on WhatsApp is entirely safe, and users have complete control over the process. During the call, users have control over the screen content ensuring data privacy and control over the shared information. The recipient won’t be able to see anything without the users’ consent to share their screen. Furthermore, this recently added feature brings a different level of convenience to the platform, saving the additional space required to install screen-sharing applications like Anydesk.

Although the screen-sharing feature is helpful in several aspects, there are also a few limitations. WABetaInfo stated that the latest screen-sharing function might not work on the older versions of WhatsApp and during group video calls. Moreover, recipients using outdated WhatsApp versions might be unable to view the shared screen. To ensure the seamless working of the feature, Both caller and receiver should use the latest version of WhatsApp to have a seamless experience of this feature. Users can update their WhatsApp application to the newest version by going to Google Play Store and installing the recently released version.

More WhatsApp Beta Features

As per the WhatsApp Beta users, alongside the screen sharing feature, WhatsApp also made slight changes in the bottom navigation bar. The order of tabs in the navigation bar has been rearranged, placing Chats, Calls, Communities, and Status in different orders.

The screen sharing feature and rearranged bottom navigation bar are only rolled out for the WhatsApp beta users. Post-completion of the testing of both segments, they will be integrated into the official version of WhatsApp, and everyone can use it. Users can join the WhatsApp Beta version to use unique features like a screen sharing feature and rearranged bottom navigation bar currently under testing.
