20 Fun Things To Do During Winter Break

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and fun. But what do you do when the sun sets early, and the temperatures drop? Enter Winter break. Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. Here are twenty fun things to do during winter break to get you through the cold months.

Here are some ideas to make the most of your fun winter break.

1. Go Ice Skating

One of the joys of winter is getting back our favorite ice skating rinks. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned ice skater, there’s always something fun about whipping around the rink. Lace-up your skates and enjoy some time on the ice. Ice skating is a great way to get exercise, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the outdoors. You can find an ice rink in most cities or even at some malls with indoor ice skating rinks, so you’ll never run out of winter break activities to try.

2. Make a gingerbread house

This classic Winter Activity is always a blast. Get together with friends or family and create a gingerbread masterpiece. Be as creative as you want with your design, or stick to a traditional gingerbread house. Don’t forget to add finishing touches, like candy canes and frosting. It’s a fun activity to do with the kids during winter months and a great way to gather everyone at the kitchen table.

3. Go sledding

Sledding is the perfect winter activity for kids and adults alike. Find a nearby hill and get sledding! If you don’t have a sled, you can always make one out of an old cardboard box. Sledding is a fun way to get outside and enjoy the winter weather. Just be sure to dress warmly in layers, so you don’t get too cold, and make sure to put on your safety gear.

4. Go on a hike

Hiking is a great way to get some exercise and take in the beauty of nature’s winter wonderland. Even in the winter, there are plenty of trails to explore. Dress warmly and enjoy the scenery on a winter hike. Spend time with friends or family and make some great memories.

5. Have a snowball fight

Snowball fights are one of the classic winter activities for families and friends alike. Gather up your peers and have a blast pelting each other with snowballs. Make sure you dress warmly, as you’re bound to get wet and cold during a snowball fight.

6. Make a snowman

Making a snowman is one of my favorite winter activities, and it’s perfect for people of all ages. Gather up some snow, find some rocks or coal for the eyes and mouth, and get to work on your very own snowman. Once you’re done, don’t forget to give him a hat and scarf. If you want to get really creative, you can even make a whole snow family.

7. Have a bonfire

Gather around a cozy bonfire with some friends or family and enjoy the warm glow. Make some s’mores, tell stories, and roast marshmallows. Bonfires are the perfect way to spend a winter night. You can even build one in your backyard if you have the space. Better yet, get a cup of hot chocolate while you’re at it to warm up from the inside out.

8. Go stargazing

Winter is the perfect time to go stargazing. The nights are longer, and the air is clearer, making for optimal stargazing conditions. Find a spot away from the city lights and enjoy the beauty of the night sky. If you’re lucky, you might even be able to see the Northern Lights! Lay down some blankets, bring some hot cocoa, and enjoy the show.

9. Visit a Christmas market

If you’re looking for a festive activity, look no further than your local Christmas market. Browse through stalls of holiday gifts, try some traditional foods, and listen to Christmas carols.

Christmas markets are the perfect place to get into the holiday spirit and find some unique gifts for your loved ones.

10. Go ice fishing

Ice fishing is a great way to spend a cold winter day if you’re looking for a more relaxed winter activity. Head out to a frozen lake with all your gear and spend the day fishing. It’s the perfect opportunity to sit back, relax, and enjoy the winter scenery. Be sure to dress warmly and pack some snacks and hot beverages to keep you fueled throughout the day.

11. Build a snow fort

Building a fort is the perfect indoor winter activity for younger children when it’s too cold to go outside. Get creative and build a fort out of blankets, couch cushions, or whatever you have around the house. Play games with the kids or curl up with a good book inside your very own fort. Or better yet, invite some friends over and have a fort-building competition. The possibilities are endless when it comes to fort building, so let your imagination run wild.

12. Have a movie marathon

If you’re looking for a low-key winter activity, curl up with a blanket and some snacks and have a movie marathon. Pick a theme, like your favorite Christmas movies, or choose a genre and make it an all-day event.

You can even invite some friends over to join in on the fun. There’s nothing better than spending quality time on a cold winter day indoors with some good company and great movies during a school break.

13. Roller Skating

Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, roller skating is a great winter activity for people of all ages. Head to your local skating rink and enjoy an afternoon of skating.

If you don’t know how to skate, don’t worry – most rinks offer skate rentals and lessons for beginners. And if you really want to get into the holiday spirit, some rinks even offer skating with Santa!

14. Play board games

Board games are the perfect way to spend a winter day indoors with family or friends.

Dust off your old favorites or try out some new ones and enjoy a day of competition and fun. You can even make it a themed board game day and play games that fit the winter season. Think Monopoly, Clue, Risk, etc.

15. Do some volunteer work

If you’re looking for a way to give back this winter, consider doing some volunteer work. There are many opportunities available, from helping out at a local soup kitchen to working at an animal shelter. Giving your time to help others is a great way to make the most of your Christmas break and spread some holiday cheer.

16. Visit a museum

Looking for an education and insightful way to spend your winter break? Why not visit a museum? There are many different types of museums, from art museums to history museums to science museums. Find one that interests you and spend an afternoon exploring. A few hours of strolling around a museum is a great way to learn something new and get out of the cold for a bit. You might be surprised at how much you enjoy it.

17. Go on a road trip

If you’re looking for an adventure this winter break, go on a road trip! Pick a destination within driving distance and hit the open road. This is a great way to see new places and explore different parts of the country.

Just be sure to plan your route ahead of time and pack everything you need for a comfortable journey. Whether you’re planning a day trip or a few weeks out, a road trip is a great way to make the most of your winter break.

18. Make some homemade gifts

One of the best things about the holidays is giving and receiving gifts. If you’re looking for a unique and personal gift, why not make something yourself? Homemade gifts are always appreciated and show that you put time and effort into them. Plus, it’s a great way to save some money this holiday season.

There are endless possibilities when it comes to homemade gifts, so get creative and have fun with them. You can find some great homemade gift ideas @ A Beautiful Mess.

If you want to go even further, you can even try your hand at making some of your own decorations. There’s no such thing as too much holiday cheer!

20. Snow Tubing

Snow tubing is a great activity for people of all ages. It’s simple – just sit in an inner tube and slide down a hill – but it’s also lots of fun.
