Residents have reported to FU that they are stranded on their balconies, unable to get out via the hallways because the Smoke was so bad.

These photos were taken in the hall way, click to enlarge them. They were taken when a family first tried to escape and couldn’t due to smoke.

The fire itself was near the first floor lobby, in the area of the laundry and mailboxes.

At 7:15am, residents still reported that they are stuck on the balconies of their units, that “The smoke smell is really bad. Lots of fire trucks and police are still here and not telling us anything”.

Another resident reached out at approximately 7:45 am, writing: “Fire department is here at 9&90. Suspicion of someone lighting off a fire in the elevator. Supposedly the fire department has fined the complex over 18k in fines for fire code violations over approximately 3 years. Some include faulty fire alarms/ smoke detectors and fire doors. They have been here as of 4am and just made it to the 5th floor at approximately 6:30 am fanning out each apartment building. After determining hydrogen cyanide was present. The opened the middle stair way to create a chimney effect to get the smoke out of the floors. State police are on their way for an investigation and the elevators have been shut down with the possibility of re opening the other.”

Mutual aid provided by Natick Fire, the scene winding down around 7:40am. At that time the fire fighters were going floor by floor, checking on all residents, evacuating them, and medically testing them for possible further treatment.

One of our contributing sources stated that they have transported her daughter to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

When finally able to get out of the building, a resident captured these images closer to the fire scene itself. Click to enlarge:

Damage – as seen in this video – is pretty extensive.
