UFC Featherweight champion is not only keen on fighting Islam Makhachev again, he’s also wishing to contest for the UFC BMF belt as well.

I can have three belts: Alexander Volkanovski

Following a loss to the 155-pound champ back in UFC 284, “The Great” returned to featherweight and is slated to take on Yair Rodriguez, the current interim champion of the division, at UFC 290 next month.

All that being said, Volkanovski is yet to let go of his desire to return to lightweight to have another go at Makhachev’s belt and as discussed during a recent video on his YouTube channel, he’s already planning for a rematch with the Russian.

However, in case of Makhachev’s unavailability, Volkanovski stated that he will be happily contesting for the winner of the upcoming UFC BMF title clash- between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje headlining UFC 291 in July.

“If I had to lean towards someone, I’d lean towards Poirier,” said Volkanovski about the BMF title fight. “He obviously won the last time they fought, and I’d probably lean towards Dustin. But you can’t tell me Justin Gaethje can’t catch him, you know what I mean?… It’s funny you say that, because I agree with it.”

“At the end of the day, fight anyone, anytime. Who’s the real badasses? The guys that fight injured and consistently, like Israel Adesanya, like myself. These guys are bad… 100% that’s something I’d love to do. I’ll do it anywhere, any place, any time… Maybe a BMF belt fight if Islam is doing his thing, and then we can rematch after. Then I can have three belts! Featherweight, BMF belt, and that lightweight belt,” he added.
