The Capital 8 Theater in Montpelier Is Back in Business

Montpelier once more smells of buttery popcorn with the return of one of its historic Movie theaters – Capitol Theatre has been an integral part of local life since 1905 and its return is an event worth celebrating.

This theater seats 1,250 guests and boasts an extensive lobby. Perfect for any group gatherings of friends or families!

Seating

The theater provides various seating arrangements, from rows closest to the stage (Row A) to those furthest away (Row M). Seats numbered 1-7 are situated to the right side of the stage, and 8-22 at roughly center stage. Seats reserved for individuals with disabilities are also numbered.

The lobby features a spacious concession stand staffed by friendly and knowledgeable staff. The in-seat menu rivals any movie theater’s with drinks of both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety as well as meals, snacks, salads, desserts and much more available for your enjoyment.

Patrons should abide by all house rules and behave appropriately during a show. Anyone violating them may be asked to leave. Law enforcement or the venue may conduct background checks and security searches on them as needed, while masks or items that cover up one’s face are not allowed into theaters for safety reasons.

Concessions

The Capital 8 Theater features an array of concessions, such as popcorn, candy, Icees, nachos, hot dogs and soda. There is also a kids menu and Kids Packs featuring Honest Kids pouches or fruit treats as part of its offering. On weekends it offers brunch services.

Moviegoers looking for something extra spicy in their concessions will appreciate this theater, which serves drinks made with Ohio-based Roake Drink Mixes. From gingery Capitol Moscow Mules and refreshing Nick and Nora Lemonades – Roake drink mixes add something special.

Capital 8 closed on March 16, 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic; it reopened as GQT Capitol 8 on August 14, 2020 as GQT Movies Circuit’s GQT Forum 8 theater in Columbia and offers free family movies Wednesday and Thursday mornings throughout summer, such as “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” “Tom and Jerry,” and “The Croods 2.” See below for the schedule for each day of viewing!

Their website contains a full listing of movies and showtimes; previously it was known as Goodrich Quality Theaters until closing due to COVID-19 pandemic on March 16, 2020 before later reopening as GQT Movies with eight screens equipped with rocker seats and digital projection; they are open Monday through Friday.

Parking

The Capitol Theatre is conveniently located in downtown Port Chester and easily accessible via Metro-North trains, making it accessible and close to shopping districts nearby. Parking facilities exist within municipal and private lots – fees apply if parking outside your performance timeframe; please be aware that doing so could result in tickets or towing charges being assessed to your car.

GQT Movies operates this theater with seating capacity for 1,554 and provides various concessions such as popcorn, soda, candy and nachos. There are eight screens and plenty of entertainment options such as air hockey and crane games to keep visitors occupied throughout their movie watching experience.

Capital 8 Theater was opened and built in 1996, offering various gaming options. Along with two air hockey tables, this theater features a crane game and movie stop machine; as well as its IMAX screen and stadium seating. Unfortunately it closed during COVID-19 pandemic; but was later reopened under new ownership: GQT Cinemas owned by Mason Asset Management and Namdar Realty Group who specialize in owning enclosed malls; their theater is located in Kentwood Michigan but they plan to expand their presence across Midwest states.
