2023 Divya Kala Mela kicks off in Guwahati, Showcasing Rich Cultural Heritage of Northeast

To honour the rich cultural history of Assam and the other north-eastern states, Guwahati is now hosting the 2023 Divya Kala Mela. Assam’s chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, opened the festival at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra on Wednesday, and it will continue there till May 14. This event, hosted by Assam’s Department of Cultural Affairs, will include outstanding examples of the state’s artistic and cultural productions.

Talented performers from all across the north-eastern area will showcase a variety of cultural performances at the Divya Kala Mela. Spectators from all across the country will flock to see these performances because they offer a window into the region’s varied and rich cultural heritage.

The festival will feature cultural performances as well as booths offering locally made goods such as handloom textiles. Assam silk, bamboo crafts, and traditional jewellery are just some of the genuine wares that local artists would sell to tourists. Visitors to the event will be able to sample authentic dishes from Assam and other north-eastern states at the many food kiosks set up across the venue.

At the opening ceremony, Chief Minister Sarma spoke on the significance of fostering and protecting Assam and the Northeast’s deep cultural traditions. He said, “The Divya Kala Mela provides a platform for artists and artisans from the region to showcase their talents and skills and for visitors to experience the unique culture of the Northeast. We hope that this event will help to promote and preserve our rich cultural heritage for future generations.”
