Indian environmentalist “Forest Man” advocates for the worldwide lockdown to rejuvenate ecosystem equilibrium

Jadav Payeng, widely known as the “Forest Man of India” and has been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shree, gave a speech at the Bodoland International Knowledge Festival in Kokrajhar. During his speech, Payeng shared his concerns about the pressing issue of global warming and urged global leaders to take action.

In particular, Payeng suggested that a week-long lockdown could be implemented worldwide to restore balance to the ecosystem. He drew on his personal experience and expressed his belief that such a measure could gradually restore equilibrium to the environment. In addition, Payeng highlighted the need to preserve India’s forests and green cover and had previously written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stressed that development at the expense of nature is imprecating. Payeng also said that he strongly believes that the new education policy in India would bring significant change. Furthermore, he also spoke in favour of a 60% reservation for women.
