If you are considering a move to Georgia, more than likely you’ve heard of Lawrenceville, Buford, Cumming, and Flowery Branch. One place that is not often noted is Sugar Hill, GA. Sugar Hill is located between Cumming and Buford on Hwy 20 also known as Nelson Brogdon Blvd. Sugar Hill is an up and coming area with great schools and amazing parks and outdoor space. There is a lot of growth happening in downtown Sugar Hill, with restaurants, theater, outdoor amphitheater, ice cream shop and rooftop bar. The multi-use area is growing rapidly and even offers a splash pad in summer and outdoor ice skating rink in the winter.

The E-center offers discounted gym memberships for residents. If you can provide a utility bill, your membership is only $10/yr to use the workout center, participate in group classes, and the gym. The space also offers meeting rooms for business purposes. There is a small additional fee for some of these services. Ultimately, the area is catering to residents to live, work, and play. There are larger scale plans to develop surrounding areas as well.

Cons to living in Sugar Hill, Georgia

Just like any area, there are things that are not so desirable. One of the biggest ones that is becoming more relevant is traffic. With its growth comes more people and more traffic. Hwy 20 is a main thoroughfare from Hwy 85 to Hwy 400 or the Cumming area, and even further Alpharetta which houses a lot of work for people. So people may choose to live in Sugar Hill because it’s more affordable.

Also, Sugar Hill does host a landfill and a quarry. Most people don’t even know the landfill is there as in most areas. However, every once in awhile you can get a smell. Most communities have a landfill closer than they know.

Ultimately you may get more bang for your buck in Sugar Hill than some surrounding areas when it comes to housing. Generally there are some older communities with older homes. The City of Sugar Hill has recently allowed for growth of townhome and smaller home communities in an effort to allow more affordable local housing.

Looking into the future City of Sugar Hill, has planned a massive development of 49 acres across the street from the downtown area. It will be multi use and consist of apartments, restaurants, and dog park. Again, they are catering to live, work, play environment. They are planning connecting the 2 areas by a walk over bridge to pass over Nelson Brogdon. The project is now under way.
