Top 5 Nigerian football Midfielders in 2022

Tactical View: Top 5 Nigerian football Midfielders in 2022 is focused on Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielders who have performed really well so far this 2022

Like we all know, Nigeria is one of the African Nations which is so good at bringing to light top players most especially Midfielders to wingers. Over the years we have seen the rise of midfielders such as  Nwankwo Kanu, Austin Okocha, Sunday Oliseh, Finidi George, John Obi Mikel etc as such its no surprise that Nigeria will keep reproducing such quality midfielders.

Before we get into our list of Top 5 Nigerian Football Midfielders in 2022, it will be important for us to make it clear that, we at BraggsSports have ALWAYS preferred “EYE ANALYSIS” to stats analysis and so our rankings are purely eye based.

1. Alex Iwobi, Everton

Since the arrival of former Chelsea boss, Franck Lampard at Everton, Alex Iwobi has completely transformed into a different midfielder. His role has been changed much more from a winger to a central role or at times cutting from the wings to the central zones of play and he seems to enjoy it more. Most importantly Alex Iwobi is got an eye for a pass and was very to Everton’s relegation battle last season.

Again this season, Iwobi hasn’t slowed down so far.

Like i said our rankings are base on eye test and so i won’t be putting down stats here.

2. Samuel Chukwueze, Villareal

Master of speed, Although at times used as a winger both in Nigeria national team and club levels, Samuel Chukweeze is a right midfielder. He has played a pivotal role in Unai Emery’s 4 man midfield Villareal success in all competitions so far this season and has been a block booster in the squad this 2022 helping them secure a spot in the Europa League which is currently in play.

His shear runs, his speed and desire to take on one or two players has been one great reason for his success at Villareal.

3. Joe Aribo, Southampton

Despite Southampton’s poor start to the season, Joe Aribo is a force to reckon in the squad. Aribo produces fine performances week-in week-out as the Nigerian midfielder is always a constant threat to defenders all through the games, his slaloming run are just perfect.

Joe Aribo has come into a system that fits his positional preferences just fine: Southampton’s 4-2-2-2 accommodates two narrow no.10s, giving Joe Aribo the right to start on the right of the attacking midfield.

4. Wilfred Ndidi, Leicester

Wilfred Ndidi has always been Nigeria’s best midfielder for more than 3 seasons now. However this 2022 has not been the best for the Super Eagle’s midfield Merchant due to injuries.

When he plays he plays well until lately which seems things may have turned against him as he has been shifted from his best suitable position being defensive midfield to a defender  after Leicester sold their defender  Wesley Fofana to Chelsea without replacing him. At times Wilfred Ndidi is caught out of position, run pass, or even diving into tackles recklessly while playing a defender.

However, Wilfred Ndidi has been a force to reckon overly this 2022.

5. Frank Onyeka, Brentford

The Brantford Midfielder has been key to the team’s recent success in the Premier League especially when the team is off the ball. A great box to box midfielder with an eye for recoveries.

Frank has played 7 matches for the Super Eagles since making his debut in 2021. That tells a lot of his quality.
