Officer, Suspect Injured in Shooting near Ramon Road Following Thousand Palms Hit-and-Run Accident

 
THOUSAND PALMS, CA (October 20, 2023) — A deputy and a suspect suffered injuries in a shooting following a hit-and-run accident near Ramon Road and Robert Road.
 
According to reports, the shooting happened around 7:08 p.m. Wednesday. Under unclear circumstances, two suspects in a vehicle crashed into at least one other car but fled the scene.
 
Subsequently, Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station deputies responded and pulled the car over near Ramon Road and Robert Road.
 
However, in an attempt to arrest the driver, the passenger of the car began firing at the deputy. From there, the shooting suspect barricaded inside the vehicle and refused to follow officers’ commands.
 
Moments later, paramedics arrived and took the deputy to a hospital where he remains in stable condition. The shooting suspect also sustained a gunfire wound and received care at a hospital. Both the wounded suspect and the vehicle’s driver face charges.
