Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Mercedes-Benz on Highway 165 in Merced County

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (October 12, 2023) – A man was hit and killed by a car on Highway 165 in Merced County late Wednesday evening on October 11.
 
The fatal crash happened around 11:30 p.m. just north of Highway 140. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was crossing the southbound lane of Highway 165 when an oncoming 2016 Mercedes-Benz E350 struck him.
 
Arriving officers located the pedestrian with severe injuries.
 
Despite life-saving efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a 44-year-old Stevinson resident.
 
The driver of the Mercedes, 27-year-old Lamar Abedi of Agoura Hills, was not hurt. He stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities.
 
CHP officials are still investigating the fatality. They asked anyone with further information to contact CHP Officer Brackett at 209-356-6600.
