Driver Killed in Multi-Car Accident on Highway 101 in Palo Alto

 
PALO ALTO, CA (September 21, 2023) — A man died in a multi-car accident on Highway 101 near San Antonio Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly multi-vehicle collision happened around 1:15 a.m. Sunday. For an unknown reason, a 2019 Mazda CX-5 driver rear-ended a northbound 2011 Chevrolet Camaro. As a result of the impact, the Chevrolet became disabled in the fast lane, where an oncoming 2019 Honda Accord and a 2019 Nissan Altima plowed into it.
 
Due to the severity of the man’s injuries, the Chevrolet Camaro driver passed away. At this time, the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released his name pending notification of next of kin. However, they described him as a 24-year-old from Redwood City.
 
As for the other drivers, the one in the Mazda left the scene on foot while the driver of the Honda suffered major injuries and required hospital transportation. A Nissan passenger complained of pain but declined hospital care.
 
Following the accident, officers closed the northbound side for several hours to investigate. However, if anyone has anything to add to the case, please call the CHP.
