Ford Hits Motorcycle on Avenal Cutoff Road in Kings County Leaving 2 Riders with Major Injuries

 
KINGS COUNTY, CA (September 13, 2023) – A man and woman were seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Avenal Cutoff Road in Kings County Thursday evening on September 7.
 
The accident happened around 8:00 p.m. just north of Kent Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the two were riding a 2000 Pure Steel motorcycle southbound on Avenal Cutoff Road at an unknown speed. At the same time, a Ford was heading northbound on Avenal at approximately 70 mph.
 
The Ford merged into the southbound lane directly into the motorcycle riders’ path of travel. Due to the Ford’s close proximity to the motorcycle, the rider was unable to take evasive action to avoid the Ford.
 
As a result, the left side of the Ford struck the left side of the motorcycle causing it to overturn.
 
The impact ejected both riders onto the roadway. Both suffered major injuries. They were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
 
The Ford continued in a northerly direction before coming to a rest on the east shoulder.
 
Drugs and/or alcohol did not play a role in this crash, which is still under investigation.

As drivers, always check your mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes. Do not follow a motorcycle too closely. Always keep a safe distance. If you see a motorcycle with a signal on, be careful. Be sure the rider is turning before moving ahead.
