Wrong-Way Driver Causes Deadly Head-On Crash on Highway 84 in San Mateo County

 
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA (September 5, 2023) – A man and woman in their 60s died in a wrong-way head-on crash on Highway 84 Friday afternoon on September 1.
 
The fatal crash happened shortly after 5:00 p.m. just east of Peek-A-Boo Lane. According to the California Highway Patrol, a man in a white BMW who was unfamiliar with the roadway was heading eastbound in the westbound lane when he collided with a gray Ford Taurus on a blind curve.
 
As a result of the crash, a male passenger in the back seat of the Taurus died at the scene.
 
Paramedics transported three other passengers of the Taurus to Stanford Medical Center, where the woman also succumbed to her injuries.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the BMW was not hospitalized. He was the sole occupant of the car and from Australia.

Officers said all four occupants of the Taurus lived nearby, and the crash happened only minutes from their home.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
