Motorcycle Rider Dies after Struck by SUV while Down on Highway 78 in Oceanside

 
OCEANSIDE, CA (August 10, 2023) – A man was killed in a motorcycle accident on Highway 78 in Oceanside late Sunday evening on August 6.
 
The fatal accident happened around 11:01 p.m. near the 5 Freeway transition ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was riding his 2012 Harley Davidson when the motorcycle went down in traffic lanes for unknown reasons.
 
A short time later, a 69-year-old San Diego man driving a Mitsubishi Outlander entered the transition ramp and struck the rider.
 
Responding paramedics rushed the victim to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
 
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office only identified the rider as a 29-year-old Oceanside resident.
 
The driver of the Mitsubishi was not injured.
 
At this time, it does not appear alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
