Roy Wiegand Dies in Bicycle Crash on San Miguel Canyon Road near Highway 101

 
PRUNEDALE, CA (August 2, 2023) — Roy Wiegand died in a bicycle accident on San Miguel Canyon Road near Highway 101.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal bicycle crash happened Saturday. As 60-year-old Roy Wiegand was on the home stretch of his 2,500-mile journey, a driver struck him.
 
Wiegand, a professional trumpeter who cycled long distances for his favorite causes, passed away at the scene. Chris Haller, his cycling partner, was trailing behind him.
 
Now, loved ones and friends are remembering this man whom they described as the friendliest, caring person. Wiegand, an avid bicyclist, was raising money for the Navajo Water Project to bring clean drinking water and solar power to people in the Navajo Nation.
