Driver Dies, 3 Hurt in Wrong-Way Crash on Katella Avenue in Orange

 
ORANGE, CA (July 10, 2023) — A wrong-way accident on Katella Avenue near Cambridge Street resulted in one death and three injuries.
 
According to Orange Police Officers, the fatal multi-vehicle crash happened around 8:19 p.m. Saturday. Upon receiving calls about a man passed out in the driver’s seat of a Hyundai Elantra, Orange Police responded to Katella Avenue soon after. However, the driver of the Hyundai reportedly woke up and drifted into oncoming traffic near Cambridge Street, where he crashed into a Toyota Tundra and a Honda Insight.
 
The sole occupant of the Hyundai was ejected from the cabin and perished at the scene. Orange Firefighters confirmed the fatality.
 
The driver of the Tundra and his 4-year-old daughter sustained minor injuries and received hospital care. Meanwhile, the Honda driver stayed at the scene and received on-site care. Officers do not know if impairment played a factor. However, they did look into the Hyundai driver’s record and found prior arrests for DUI and being under the influence of controlled substances.
 
Officials did not release the victim’s name at this time.
