Teen Passenger Dies after Car Rolls Over on 880 Freeway in San Jose

 
SAN JOSE, CA (June 9, 2023) – An 18-year-old woman was killed in a rollover accident on 880 Freeway in San Jose early Thursday morning on June 8.
 
The fatal accident happened around 12:50 a.m. just north of Montague Expressway. According to the California Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old man was driving a 2007 Dodge Caliber between 65 and 75 mph on the northbound freeway. For unknown reasons, he lost control of the car after an unsafe turning movement to the left.
 
The car struck the median barrier, then veered right, crossing the four northbound lanes of the roadway. It hit the raised strip that separates the freeway lane from the on-ramp, overturned and slammed into the soundwall.
 
The victim was a passenger in the Dodge. She was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead by paramedics at 1:10 a.m.
 
CHP officials said the woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
 
The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner will release the victim’s identity once family members are properly notified.
 
An investigation into the accident is underway. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol was a factor.
