Passenger Dies when Bags of Cement from Overturned Truck Crashes Through Windshield of SUV on Highway 52 in Clairemont

 
CLAIREMONT, CA (May 29, 2023) – A woman died after their vehicle was struck by bags of cement from overturned truck on Highway 52 in Clairemont Friday afternoon on May 26.
 
The crash happened shortly before 1:00 p.m. near 805 Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet stake-bed truck lost control as it was exiting from southbound 805 Freeway onto eastbound Highway 52. The truck overturned and dumped its load on an eastbound Mercedes-Benz SUV.
 
At least one bag of cement then crashed through the windshield of the SUV, killing the female passenger.
 
Authorities only described the victim as someone in her 70s.
 
The drivers of the SUV and the truck were uninjured.
 
Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
