Tefusa Bus Crashes on 15 Freeway near Baker Ejecting Several People and Killing One Passenger

 
BAKER, CA (December 21, 2022) – Velia Monarrez was killed in a bus accident near the town of Baker late Tuesday evening on December 13.
 
The fatal accident happened around 11:32 p.m. on 15 Freeway near mile marker 126, just south of Rasor Road. According to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, a 2016 Volvo bus owned by Tufesa USA LLC operated by a 51-year-old male from Las Vegas, Nevada, veered off roadway for unknown reasons.
 
The tour bus entered the open desert terrain, just west of the freeway. While traveling across the open desert, the bus hit a raised dirt berm and became airborne.

Rescue crews arrived and located multiple people who had been ejected from the bus. They also requested multiple medical helicopters and several ambulances to transport the passengers.

Monarrez, who was one of the passengers, died at the scene. She was 68 years old from Las Vegas, Nevada.

At least 11 other people sustained injuries, seven of them were in critical condition.

Alcohol and/or drugs were not contributing factors in the crash, which is still under investigation. Officers urged anyone with further information to call the California Highway Patrol Barstow Area office at 760-255-5900.
