Marisol Maldonado met Rob on his tour when she was 24 and 27. A guitar technician for Rob’s band had invited her to the afterparty. The lovebirds talked for 10 minutes at the party, enough to ignite the spark.

Marisol described him as the man of her dreams in an interview. She said, “I left and told my girlfriend, ‘That’s the guy I’m going to marry.’ I tell people I have always been married to him – I just hadn’t met him yet.”

For two weeks, Rob called her every night while on tour with his band.

A week after they started dating, the couple decided to get matching tattoos to show their confidence in their relationship.

The idea crossed their mind while passing through a tattoo parlor in New York. Rob had his tattoo on his arm, while Marisol got it on her ankle. The matching tattoo was a Japanese symbol that denoted ‘loyalty.’

Two months into dating Marisol, Rob proposed to her with an antique-style engagement ring.

Marisol Maldonado’s husband, Rob Kelly Thomas, was born on February 14, 1972, in Landstuhl, West Germany.

He is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and the lead singer for Matchbox Twenty.

Rob Thomas had a rough upbringing due to his parents’ rocky relationship, which led him to act out often in his twenties. As a result, he was sent to jail for two years for stealing a car.
