A car accident on 5 August severely injured the actor, who had legally died but kept on life Support for organ donation.

A Family Representative said she got taken off life support following her Death Announcement last Friday.

The 53-year-old Heche was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on 5 August, suffering a “severe anoxic brain injury,” her family said. Her “brain death” was confirmed on Friday, a legal definition of death in California. However, it appears life support is maintained to facilitate organ donation. A family representative said she had been “peacefully taken off life support” on Sunday.

In 1991, Heche won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series. She debuted on primetime television in an episode of Murphy Brown in November 1991. Her TV movie debut came the following year with O Pioneers, an episode of the Hallmark Hall of Fame. (1992).

Her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres, which began in 1997, attracted considerable media attention. Her father sexually abused her, she claimed in a memoir published in 2001.

Her family previously told the news site TMZ: “We have lost a bright light, a kind, and most joyful soul, a loving mother and a loyal friend. Anne will be deeply missed, but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy. Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact.”
