PHOTOS: Saudi Surgeons Separate Conjoined Nigerian Twins After 14-Hour Operation

Nigerian twins Hassanah and Hussaina were separated by surgeons at Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children.

The procedure, which started on Thursday, lasted 14 hours, according to Arab News.

Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesperson, confirmed the operation in a tweet on Thursday.

On Friday, Arab News published photographs of the babies and the medical team that carried out the successful procedure.

The twins were conjoined at the belly, pelvis, liver, intestines, urinary and reproductive systems, and pelvic bone locations when they were delivered in January 2022 at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Kaduna.

They were moved to the National Hospital in Abuja, where they stayed for about eight months without undergoing surgery due to lack of funds.
