In Assam, India, Matheson Tri-Gas, Inc. (Matheson) will build a Hydrogen plant after winning an award from Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), which is a public sector affiliate of the Indian government. The announcement was made live on 13th December 2022.

In this establishment, many big companies are involved, for example, Nippon Sanso, which manufactures 285 tonnes of hydrogen per day at NRL’s Numaligarh site. A subsidiary of Larsen & Turbo Limited will be in charge of the plant’s construction and engineering.

The plant will support Matheson/NSHD’s Carbon Index considerations, which uses a wide range of feedstocks and fuels, as well as ‘highest resource usage efficiency’.

The project will come live in 2025 and it will aid the company in its expansion plans. According to the Indian government’s green hydrogen policy, which was unveiled in February this year. Made sure that renewable energy will be cheaper, interstate power transmission fees will be waived for 25 years for those projects that are commissioned before June 2025, and hydrogen manufacturing zones will be set up in energy parks for cheap land.

India’s other hydrogen project on the Northeastern front

The Indian government initiatives are aimed at developing the Northeast part of the country, including the Paradip Numaligarh Crude Pipeline (PNCP), the Crude Oil Import Terminal (COIT) at Paradip, the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline (IBFP), the Numaligarh-Siliguri interstate products pipeline, and the 2G Ethanol project.
