One tomato grower in the Pune district of Maharashtra has struck it rich as a result of the nationwide increase in the price of tomatoes. Through the sale of 13,000 tomato crates in just one month, Tukaram Bhagoji Gayakar and his family were able to bring in more than Rs 1.5 crore.
Maharashtra farmer gets millionaire in a month by selling tomatoes
Tukaram is the owner of 18 acres of agricultural land, of which he cultivates tomatoes with the assistance of his son Ishwar Gayakar and his daughter-in-law Sonali on 12 acres of his land.
According to the family, they cultivate tomatoes of a high quality, and their familiarity with various types of fertilizers and pesticides allows them to protect their harvest from being damaged by insects.
The tomato crate that the farmer sold in Narayanganj brought in Rs 2,100 for him in a single day’s work. On Friday, Gayakar was able to sell a total of 900 boxes, resulting in a one-day revenue of Rs 18 lakh.
He was successful in selling tomato crates at prices ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,400 per crate over the previous month, depending on the quality of the tomatoes.
Farmers in the city of Junnar, which is located in the district of Pune, who are now cultivating tomatoes have helped many of their families become billionaires.
Through the sale of tomatoes, the committee has generated revenue of Rs. 80 crore in just one month, and as a result, over one hundred local women have found work as a result of this endeavor.
His son Ishwar is in charge of sales, management, and financial planning, while Tukaram’s daughter-in-law Sonali is in charge of managing day-to-day operations like planting, harvesting, and packaging.

The highest price that was offered for tomatoes at the market run by the Jhunnu Agricultural Produce Market Committee in Narayanganj was Rs 2,500 for crates containing 20 kilograms of tomatoes of good quality, which works out to Rs 125 per Kilogram.
The phenomenon of farmers earning millionaires as a result of selling tomatoes is not unique to Maharashtra. This week, a farming family from the city of Kolar in the Indian state of Karnataka made Rs 38 lakh after selling 2,000 crates of tomatoes.

According to data provided by the government, the average price across all of India was close to 117 rupees per kilogram.
In order to alleviate pressure on retail customers, the Central Government has begun offering tomatoes at a price of Rs 90 per kilogram in a number of locations, including Delhi-National Capital Region, Patna, and Lucknow.
On July 15, around 18,000 kilograms were sold in the Delhi-National Capital Region via mobile vans.
On behalf of the Center, mobile vans are being used to facilitate the sale of tomatoes by the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED).

“In addition to various parts of Delhi and Noida, today sales of tomatoes at discounted rates started in Lucknow, Patna, and Muzaffarpur,” tweeted Rohit Kumar Singh, the Union Consumer Affairs Secretary.
According to a statement released by the department of consumer affairs, retail customers in Delhi and the National Capital Region purchased around 18,000 kilograms (kg) of tomatoes.
“It seems to have made an impact as today there was sharp drop in Azadpur Mandi (wholesale) price and slight dip in retail price,” it added. “Wholesale price” refers to the amount paid by wholesalers.
Today was the first day of sales in Lucknow, and we were able to move 7,000 kg. Tomorrow, in addition to continuing our interventions in Delhi and Lucknow, we will also engage in the retail sector in Kanpur, according to the statement made by the department.
The National Capital Commodity Fund (NCCF) intends to begin selling tomatoes at about one hundred and eighty Kendriya Bhandar locations beginning on July 16.
It is currently discussing the possibility of selling tomatoes through Mother Dairy’s 400 Safal retail locations located in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).
According to the data that was prepared by the Department of Consumer Affairs on Saturday, the average retail price of tomatoes was ruled at 116.86 Indian Rupees per kilogram, while the highest rate was 250 Indian Rupees per kilogram and the lowest rate was 25 Indian Rupees per kilogram.
The price of tomatoes is approximately Rs 100 per kilogram.

The price of a kilogram of tomatoes was the highest in Delhi, at Rs 178. This was followed by Mumbai, where the price was Rs 150, and Chennai, where the price was Rs 132. Hapur had the highest price, which was Rs 250 per kilogram there.
