Tips For Catch ‘Em Mode

Pokemon Unite recently celebrated its one-year anniversary as the wildly popular first strategic team battle game of the Pokemon series. Players enter in 5-on-5 team battles to deter the opposing team from scoring, while trying to rack up as many points as possible. With the addition of the Catch ‘Em mode that came earlier this year, players can transform into wild Pokemon from various game modes to use their abilities, including boss Pokemon.

In this mode of Pokemon Unite, the player’s team focuses on scoring on three enemy Goal Zones. These particular battles take place in Mer Stadium & feature four players. While wild Pokemon have limitations that prevent them from using Unite moves or battle items, their abilities replace both, making them highly effective in this game mode. With these tips, players can make the most of their experience in Catch ‘Em mode, beating the enemy team easily.

5/5 Choose The Best Pokemon For The Battle

For players looking for high-damage output combined with burst potential, Cinderace, Absol, & Dragonite are excellent choices. Each one is great against wild Pokemon bosses & capable of stealing them. Players who want a more All-Rounder type can choose from Charizard, Aegislash, & Lucario. In addition to dealing massive damage, they can soak quite a bit as well. They are also effective against player-controlled wild Pokemon due to their rapid, hard-hitting combos.

Tsareena & Venusaur offer consistent damage infliction, cooldown reduction combos, as well as HP recovery. If players seek Pokemon with greater mobility, Zeraora & Talonflame both have high-mobility moves. They can agilely maneuver around the battlefield sneaking in points for the players. The bottom line is that players must choose the best Pokemon based on the type of battle skills they will be most successful with using.

4/5 Focus On Highlighted Pokemon To Capture A Wild One

Catch ‘Em mode isn’t just about defeating wild Pokemon. Players should take all opportunities to use their abilities in combat by capturing wild Pokemon as well. However, not all wild Pokemon can be captured. Those that can be captured have a white aura or circle under them. If players are interested in taking advantage of their skills, they should focus on wild Pokemon with auras.

Boss wild Pokemon can also be captured & used for their abilities. They’re a little bit different, because they’ll be marked on the map with a boss icon. However, they only spawn in specific locations at specific times. If it’s not time for them to spawn, players will see a timer instead. While fighting these Pokemon, players will need to take greater care, as they are much stronger & sturdier than regular wild Pokemon. However, the benefits of using their abilities are well worth the effort of capturing them.

3/5 Use Careful Timing When Swapping To A Wild Pokemon

Swapping to a wild Pokemon can be beneficial to players for more than just the character’s abilities. Timing the swap just right could mean the difference between getting knocked down & staying to play a little longer. When a player is at very low HP, taking over a wild Pokemon will give them full health.

As they play as wild Pokemon & they receive damage, the player’s health will deplete. Eventually, the player may be returned to their original Pokemon. It is essential that they remember they will be returned at the level of HP they had when they took over the wild Pokemon. This will occur even if they healed as the wild Pokemon before changing back. Players also need to remember that while in the wild Pokemon state, they will not have access to their Unite abilities or battle items. They will be replaced with the wild Pokemon’s abilities.

2/5 Use Fluffy Tail To Secure Wild Pokemon Faster

Fluffy Tail is an essential battle item that players should keep with them at all times, especially when heading into Catch ‘Em mode. It has a relatively short cooldown time of only 25 seconds, so players can use it frequently.

This item offers players the opportunity to stun their opponents, making it easier to deal massive damage. For Pokemon that are not player-controlled, it also increases the damage inflicted. Using it against boss Pokemon makes subduing them much more efficient & farming wild Pokemon even easier.

1/5 Use Boss Pokemon To Disable Enemy Goal Zones

Players can use specific boss Pokemon within enemy Goal Zones to leave them defenseless for 15 seconds. Doing this will allow the team to push a lane. It also cuts off any healing that Goal Zone has during the down period, which could be seriously harmful to the opposing team.

Regigigas, Articuno, & Zapdos are the best selections for this task. Players must use Regigigas’s Hyper Beam, Articuno’s Ice Beam, & Zapdos’s Zap Canon. This can turn the tide in favor of the player’s team, allowing them to score a significantly greater amount of points than they would have without disabling the Goal Zone.

Pokemon Unite is available now on Nintendo Switch.
