Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are the latest in the monster-catching franchise. This time around, trainers will be able to explore the open world of Paldea for the first time & enjoy three different storylines that can be completed in no particular order. However, while the change to an open world is a first for the series, the beginning of the game still follows the same formula as past entries.

Trainers will start off in their bedroom that’s upstairs in their family home. After some short dialog exchanges with mom & another NPC, trainers will get to walk around outside with the three potential starter-type Pokemon, Quaxly, Fuecoco, & Sprigatito. At first, players will not be able to move fast at all, with only a slow walk available for now. However, players will be able to run faster after playing the game for just a few minutes.

How to Move Faster & Run in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

For the players out there that just want to run as fast as they can & get on with their adventure, they need to start walking on the path facing east towards the Enormous purple-colored home of Director Clavell.

After passing the sign that says Cabo Poco, which is shown in the screenshot below, trainers will be able to run by simply moving the left control stick. That’s right. There is no dedicated run button to hold down in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, as running is basically automatic.

Can I Walk Slowly in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?

In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, players can slow down their speed by pressing the B button. This will put trainers into a crouching position, giving them a better chance to stealthily approach sought-after Pokemon. Also, if trainers press the B button while running, they can perform a quick little slide to get into the crouch position fast. This is great for moments when an unexpected Pokemon appears, & trainers want to stop in their tracks to capture it.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet launch for the Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022.
