Director Reveals Juhi Chawla Said No To His Movie When He Said, “You’re Not Madhuri Dixit”

The era of 90s in Bollywood saw the rivalry of Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla as they both competed for the number one spot in the film industry and recently during an interview, director Dharmesh Darshan revealed an incident which gave a glimpse of the rivalry of both the actresses.

Dharmesh and Juhi worked together in Lootere (1993) and Dharmesh also wanted to cast her in the movie, Raja Hindustani but Juhi was a little doubtful because it was not a masala movie as Lootere. While trying to convince Juhi and to make her understand that simplicity also works in films, Dharmesh gave her the example of Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994) but then Juhi said to Dharmesh that he is not Sooraj Barjatya which hurt the director and he responded by telling Juhi that she is no Madhuri Dixit either.

Dharmesh further revealed that Juhi said No to the movie after that but next day she apologised and asked Dharmesh to meet again but instead of meeting Juhi Chawla, the director went to meet Karisma Kapoor who said Yes for the role. Aamir Khan also liked Karisma for this role and finally Dharmesh got his heroine after facing rejections from Juhi, Pooja Bhatt and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as well.

While Madhuri and Juhi didn’t work together in those days but in 2014, they shared the screen in Gulaab Gang.
