Palestine received life-saving medicines, protective gear, and wound care from India. The aid is being sent amid ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, after Israel blocked food, water, electricity, and internet in Gaza.

On Sunday, Ministry of External Affairs spokeswoman Arindam Bagchi said India provided medical and disaster assistance aid to Palestine.

The medical supplies include life-saving drugs and emergency surgery equipment. Wound treatment was considered when ordering medical supplies.

Emergency humanitarian help includes fluids and medications. The 32-ton disaster relief gear comprises tents, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, basic sanitary amenities, water purification pills, etc.

Relief supplies were flown by an Indian Air Force C17 from Hindon at 8 am. El-Arish airport in Egypt will receive it around 3 pm (IST).

Arindam Bagchi told X, “India offers Palestine humanitarian aid! IAF C-17 airplane delivering roughly 6.5 tonnes of medical supplies and 32 tonnes of disaster relief for Palestine departs for El-Arish airport in Egypt. The package includes life-saving medicines, surgical supplies, tents, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, hygiene supplies, and water purification tablets.”

India has delivered humanitarian help to Palestine amid the Israel-Hamas war. After Hamas launched a’surprise strike’ on October 7, Israel launched a counter-offensive.

As many as 20 humanitarian assistance trucks entered Gaza through Egypt’s Rafah border on Saturday. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that “needs are far higher” in the 2 million-person enclave.

He demanded “safe passage of additional aid convoys across the enclave”.The Rafah border crossing was briefly opened Saturday morning to allow 20 Egyptian assistance trucks into Gaza. Many have cheered the temporary reopening, but rights groups say more aid is required.

Ghebreyesus told X, “WHO medical supplies crossed Rafah. Needs are far greater. To satisfy Gazans’ severe health needs, we demand safe passage of additional aid convoys across the enclave, protection of humanitarian personnel, and continued health assistance access.”

European Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen called it a “important first step that will alleviate the suffering of innocent people.”
