The power sector received 294.8 million tons of coal from government-owned Coal India in the first half of 2023-24, up 3.4%. 1.8 MT of coal was supplied during six months, exceeding 293 MT demand. Coal is India’s most abundant fossil fuel, according to the Ministry of Coal’s website. It provides 55% of US energy. In April-September, Coal India supplied 360.7 MT, up from 332 MT.

A BSE filing states that Coal India made a big order with GOCL Corporation for energetics and commercial explosives due to strong demand.

In the Rs 766 crore procurement, 2011 Maharatna Coal India received bulk explosives.

The order takes two years—October 2023–October 2025.

The government-run Coal India Limited produces 80% of India’s coal, the main source of electricity.

The Rs 766 crore Coal India order lifted GOCL Corp shares to a 52-week high Friday. Stock peaked at Rs 622.95. However, Coal India shares closed at Rs 312.30.

Blasting occurs in mines. Additionally, GOCL Corporation makes mining infrastructure.
