Gaza Destroyed: Why Israelis hold Netanyahu responsible for Hamas attack on Israel

80% of Israelis blame Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for security failures in the Hamas attack that killed 1,400. But, Netanyahu hasn’t admitted fault.

Gaza has been destroyed in just two weeks since the latest Israel-Palestine conflict started. Israeli strikes destroyed many northern Gaza refugee camp buildings. Israel blocked food, water, electricity and even the internet from reaching the people of Gaza.

Over 1,400 Israelis were killed by Hamas the week before. But, Israel’s retaliatory bombardment has killed twice that figure: nearly 2,700 Gazans. Many children have lost their parents forever, while 60% of those killed in Gaza were just innocent kids.

Why Israelis hold Netanyahu accountable:

An 80% of Israelis believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must take responsibility for Hamas’ devastating attack on October 7 that started the latest conflict, according to a Friday poll.

The army chief of staff, military intelligence chief, and Shin Bet intelligence chief admitted they failed to prevent the attack, which killed 1,400 Israelis on Israel’s deadliest day in 75 years.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, Netanyahu’s coalition partner, said the government and security leadership failed to protect the country, but the premier has not taken responsibility.

Netanyahu promised “we will investigate everything thoroughly” about the Oct. 7 attack this week.

Even 69% of Netanyahu’s Likud supporters said he should take responsibility.

This survey showed Netanyahu far behind former Defence Minister Benny Gantz, head of a centrist opposition party that joined a unity government last week. It found that 48% thought Gantz would be a better PM than Netanyahu (28%).

The poll found 65% of Israelis supported the Gaza ground invasion.

An Oct. 18–19 poll of 510 respondents had a 4.3% margin of error.

Conclusion

Eighty percent of Israelis blame Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for security failures in the Hamas attack on Gaza, which killed 1,400 Israelis. Civilians fled to southern Gaza after the October 7 attack destroyed buildings in a northern Gaza refugee camp. Retaliatory bombing by Israel killed nearly 2,700. The army chief of staff, military intelligence chief, and Shin Bet intelligence chief admitted failing to stop the attack. Netanyahu’s coalition partner, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, claims the government and security leadership failed to protect Israel. Even 69% of Netanyahu’s Likud supporters said he should take responsibility.
