Stock Market Today: Despite market turbulence, domestic equities opened flat on Wednesday. The BSE Sensex fell 39.71 points, or 0.06%, to 66,388.38. The broader NSE Nifty50 index fell 5.35 points, or 0.03%, to 19,816.85.

Broader markets beat main indices today. The Nifty Smallcap 50 index rose 0.88%. Additionally, Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 0.62% and Nifty Smallcap 250 gained 0.43%. The Nifty Microcap 250 rose 0.59% while the Nifty Midsmallcap 400 rose 0.30%.

Sectorally, the media index rose 0.96%. Nifty Metal gained 0.77% and Nifty Pharma 0.69%. The Nifty Healthcare Index rose 0.51%. Other sectoral performers were Nifty PSU Bank (0.36%) and the auto index (0.24%).

Several equities pushed down important indices in the morning. Bajaj Finance, PowerGrid, Apollo Hospitals, ICICI Bank, LTI Mindtree, HDFC Bank, Tata Consumer, NTPC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hindustan Unilever, L&T, and Asian Paints.

However, Cipla, Dr. Reddy’s, Hindalco, Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, ITC, Divis Lab, HDFC Life, Bajaj Auto, Eicher Motors, JSW Steel, Infosys, Coal India, ONGC, BPCL, and Grasim gained.
