When the IIT Bombay graduate was appointed, his pay was around Rs 8 crore, and he also received restricted stock units worth almost Rs 94 crore. He was fired after one year despite getting over Rs 100 crore in compensation. IIT graduate Parag Agarwal was fired as Twitter CEO after the world’s richest man bought the company for $44 billion. Parag Agrawal was born in Ajmer to rich, educated parents. His father was a prominent Indian Department of Atomic Energy officer, while his mother is a retired economics professor.
Agrawal graduated from IIT Bombay in 2005 with a 77th percentile all India rank (AIR). Later, he traveled to the US to enroll in Stanford University’s computer science PhD program.

Agrawal had internships at Microsoft Research and Yahoo prior to joining Twitter in 2011. He spent almost six years working at Twitter until Adam Messinger’s departure led to his appointment as chief technical officer.

Since leaving Twitter, Parag Agrawal has not worked for another organization. ‘Former CEO at Twitter’ is all that appears on his LinkedIn bio. Vineeta Agarwala, a general partner at the venture capital company Andreessen Horowitz, is the wife of Parag Agrawal. Two children belong to the engineer’s family.
