Inspiring journey of MP girl who built Rs 50 Lac tuition startup against all odds

The article discusses the inspiring story of Neha Mujawdiya, a young girl from a village, who overcame several obstacles to build a successful tuition startup, TutorCabin, with a turnover of Rs 50 lakhs. The article explores the challenges she faced and the strategies she used to overcome them, highlighting the lessons other aspiring entrepreneurs can learn from her journey.

Neha Mujawdiya, who grew up in a tiny hamlet in Madhya Pradesh with just a government Hindi language school up to Class 8, fought the obstacles to continue her education.

She graduated from a government school around 8 kilometres from her hometown and went on to college in a nearby town to earn her BS in Economics.

Subsequently, she went on to get her MBA from a college in Indore, nearly 200 kilometres from her village, while sleeping in a hostel in the city and defying pressure from the local society, who did not approve of her scholarly pursuits and wanted her to stay at home.

But Neha persisted, and after finishing her education, she secured a position in an Indore Coaching facility, where she worked for a few years before founding her own edtech startup, TutorCabin, with Rs 50,000 in 2018.

What began as a tiny home tuition business in Indore with roughly 20 students has now grown to provide online coaching lessons to thousands of students throughout the country.

Neha’s tale might serve as an encouragement to every Indian woman who aspires to be a success. Neha is from Melkheda village in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district. It is a tiny community with around 2000 inhabitants. Unfortunately, females in the hamlet do not have the opportunity to
complete their schooling and seek further education.

Neha was raised in a middle-class family. She is the youngest of four siblings. Her father has an agro business in the area, where he sells agricultural supplies such as seeds and fertiliser. Although growing up in a conventional culture, Neha never stopped dreaming big.

It was that dream that kept her going, telling her not to give up and to keep learning. She enrolled in a government school around 8 kilometres from her hometown after finishing Class 8. The choice by the family to allow her to finish her studies did not sit well with the locals. Neha, on the other hand, continued her studies and graduated from Government Girls Higher Secondary School (located in Shamgarh) in 2006.

She studied BS Economics at S.N. Udiya College in Garoth, some 18 kilometres from her town, and graduated in 2009. Neha was keen to continue her education and persuaded her parents to transfer her to Indore.

Neha resided in a hostel in Indore while doing her MBA at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her studies. Neha began taking home tuitions for school pupils after her class hours. She thereafter became a tutor at a coaching institute, where she taught until she founded her own edtech firm in 2018.

Neha claims that while teaching at the coaching facility, she discovered that pupils were not receiving the quality coaching that they needed for the price they were paying. She also believed that establishing her own coaching institute would aid youngsters from small towns and rural areas.

In 2018, Neha founded TutorCabin. Initially, she concentrated on students in grades one through ten. She began with around seven tutors. They earned Rs 5 lakh in the first year, and the revenue increased to Rs 50 lakh in FY 2019-20. The epidemic was a gift in disguise for her, as she shifted to online coaching and began enrolling students and tutors from around the country.

Neha is currently single and has no intentions to marry. She gets up early, meditates, attends her zumba class, and then goes to work. Neha’s parents and the community are now very proud of her. She serves as a role model for females in her community.
