Black capped conure( Pyrhura rupicola ) is a species of bird in the genus of red-tailed parakeets ( Pyrhura ) in the parrot family (Psittacidae).
Black capped conure personality
The black Capped Conure reaches a body length of 25 cm and a weight of 75 g. It is a predominantly green, long-tailed New World parrot.
It is dark brown from the forehead to the nape of the neck, with whitish feathering on the throat, sides of the neck, and upper breast.
The unfeathered orbital ring is white, face and ear cover green. Primaries and secondaries are essentially bluish green, with thin black tips on top, dark green underneath with green underwing coverts.
The outer hand covers, the alula, and the front edge of the wings are bright red. Belly and undertail coverts are green, with a chestnut tone in the central belly area.
The beak is slate gray, the cere is pale gray and the legs are blackish. The iris is brown.
In the subspecies, Pyrrhura Rupicola Sandiae the whitish edges of the feathers on the breast, throat, and sides of the neck are narrower than in the nominate form, the lighter feather edges are absent on the nape.
Habitat
The nominate form occurs in central Peru, the subspecies Pyrrhura rupicola sandiae in southeastern Peru and extreme western Brazil and northern Bolivia.

Black-capped Parakeets inhabit humid lowland tropical forests as well as Várzea and Terra Firme landscapes, the species is more rarely found in the eastern foothills of the Andes.
In general, its live up to a height of 300 m. They are sociable animals that come together in groups of up to 30 individuals, in the breeding season they prefer smaller groups.
As a rule, they can be found in the treetops, where they also look for their food and fly around. Only rarely does the black-capped parakeet go below 30 m in height? However, little is known about the type of food and reproduction.

Endangerment and Protection
Based on a model of future deforestation in the Amazon basin and associated habitat loss, the population of this species is estimated to decline by 25-30% over the next three generations (18 years).
In addition, the black capped Conure is threatened by hunting and trapping. It is therefore classified as Near Threatened (NT) by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources).
