Nigerian Army recovers illegal 130 small arms, ammunition, others

The Commander Operations SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army, Major General AE Abubakar, has said the recent operations by troops of OPSH has led to the recovery of 130 small arms, light weapons and ammunition from unauthorised persons.

He said this while submitting the weapons to the National Centre For The Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons at the Headquarters Operation Safe Haven in Jos.

As obtained from the official Twitter handle of the Nigeria Army @HQNigerianArmy, the Commander noted that troops have maintained an offensive posture, conducting several kinetic operations and moving into the hinterlands to protect isolated communities adding that these have led to the neutralisation of several bandits, arrest of suspects, recovery of weapons, capture of gunrunners and prosecution of some of those culpable of causing crisis.

He commended the troops for their resilience and success recorded in curtailing criminal activities and recovery of numerous illicit weapons; he also commended citizens who gave information to troops, that led to the actions.

Receiving the recovered arms and weapons, the Coordinator North Central Geopolitical zone of National Centre For The Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, Major General Hamza Bature (rtd), applauded security agencies for their efforts towards having an illicit arm-free society.

He disclosed that the agency would continue to cooperate with Operation SAFE HAVEN towards ridding the society of illegal arms and weapons.
