…kick against assault, abuse of women

A group, Ekiti Women in Management, EKWIM, has advocated for the rights of women in Ekiti State Civil Service Commission and kicked against the abuse of women in the state.

The group made the disclosure on Thursday, in Ado-Ekiti, at a one-day event commemorating the International Women’s Day in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, Ekiti State.

According to the Co-Coordinator of EKWIM, Oyeyemi Kayode-Ojo, the group is concerned with the rights of women in the civil service aimed at ensuring efficient service delivery.

While condemning the assault melted out to women in the society she called on them to brace up to actualize their potentials in the society.

Her words: “At the public service level, Ekiti Women in Management (EKWIM) is out to raise the voice of advocacy for the rights of women in the civil service. We are out to spur female officers to brace up in all area so as to actualize their potentials.

“To register your presence meaningfully, you must prove your worth and this requires determination and dedication; it entails moving with the right people, doing the right thing at the right time. The 2023 theme is calling our attention to the gaps in Education and Careers and what we need to do as women to address it.

“Our attention is being pointed to the fact that many women still suffer assault and abuse and that we have the role to protect ourselves, one another and the younger generation from such assaults.”

In his opening remarks, the Acting Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Sunday Bamise Esq encouraged women to leverage on the various technological innovations to remain relevant in this age.

He called on government agencies, CSOs and all stakeholders to join women all over the world to embrace equity in all facets of life in line with the theme of the celebration.

Highlights of the event were presentations on topics including; “Domestic Violence: Impacts on the Female Gender” delivered by Lydia Adebayo Esq, Director, Department of Law Review, Ekiti State Ministry of Justice.

Others are; “Personal Growth and Development in 21st Century Public Service” delivered by Yetunde Kolawole, Esq. Director, Department of Research and Publications, Ekiti State Ministry of Justice while Kemi Akinleye, Deputy Director, Nursing Services, Ministry of Health and Human Services, spoke on “Healthy Living: Panacea to Career Progression in the Public Service.”
