Here are some inventors whose inventions brought catastrophic results

While there are many inventors of tragic inventions that brought them extremely bad luck, the CEO of OceanGate Expeditions, Stockton Rush now holds the first place to be the designer whose own design took his life.

The Titan submersible allowed passengers and Rush himself to dive thousands of miles deep into the ocean to explore the Titanic wreckage.

But all changed in June 2023 when Rush’s own creation failed to withstand the ocean’s terrific pressure, resulting in the death of five passengers, one being the CEO himself.

Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate

Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate Expedition died tragically inside his Titan Voyage, a compact vessel which he created to explore the sunken Titanic ship.

The sub’s engineer and other four fellow passengers lost connections during a June 2023 mission to the ill-fated RMS Titanic.

It was later revealed the submersible imploded underwater due to the ocean’s extreme pressure.

In November last year, reporter David Pogue took a visit to the vessel for CBS Sunday Morning.

The designer himself told him that the Titan “has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body” and that the trip “could result in physical injury, disability, emotional trauma or death.”

Thomas Andrews, the inventor of the Titanic

Before Rush, Thomas Andrews held the record of the most recent maritime inventor who died because of his own work.

The naval architect wanted to install another row of lifeboats on the massive vehicle. Sadly, it got rejected and hundreds of passengers and crew members aboard lost their lives that night.

However, BBC revealed that the shipbuilder spent his final hours guiding passengers to safety in lifeboats and is now remembered as a hero.

Madam Curie, the first woman to win the Nobel Prize

Marie Curie‘s trailblazing research and discovery of radioactive elements won her Nobel Prizes in physics and chemistry.

While she was the very first woman to win that award, she is also the first person to win it twice and is the only person to win the prize for her work in two different fields.

While her radioactivity became greatly successful, she also lost her life because of that same reason.

The mathematician contracted aplastic anemia and died when she was 66 in 1934.

The deadly condition was the result of overexposure to ionizing radiation, a danger that no one understood at the time.
