Nicole Kidman Creates History by Becoming the First Australian Actor to Receive the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award!

Nicole Kidman joins top names of world cinema to receive honor from American Film Institute

Congratulations to Nicole Kidman who is all set to receive the Life Achievement award from the American Film Institute next year.

The 55-year-old Aussie actress will be the first Australian native to receive the prize.

Before Kidman, many prominent faces of the world cinema like Meryl Streep, Robert de Niro, Al Pacino, George Clooney, and Jane Fonda received the prestigious award.

The Homegrown actress will receive the prize on June 10 in a star-studded ceremony in LA.

The prize is awarded by the AFI Board of Trustees, which is one of filmdom’s highest honors.

Nicole, who was thrilled by the news, took to her Instagram to share the good news with her fans. She posted a beautiful picture of herself and captioned it:

”Looking forward to seeing you in June.’

In the official announcement, The AFI’s chair, film producer Kathleen Kennedy praised Nicole for her contribution to the cinematic world.

She said:

‘Nicole Kidman has enchanted for decades with her daring artistry and the glamour of a screen icon,

The AFI Life Achievement award ceremony started in 1973 and Nicole will be the 49th recipient of the prestigious honor.

Kidman’s career and accolades in the last 40 years

Kidman has worked with some of the biggest filmmakers of her generation and has wowed the audience with her stellar performance in every movie she did.

Kidman who was born in Hawaii in 1967, was raised in Sydney. She then started her career in Australia by acting as a child actor in movies like Bush Christmas (1983), and BMX Bandits that same year.

Her landmark role came in 1987 when she played a rebellious 60s teen in the iconic Kennedy-Miller mini-series called Vietnam.

She became an international star after working in another Kennedy-Miller production, the thriller movie, Dead Calm in 1989. She worked in the film alongside Sam Neill.

Nicole later went on to three movies with Tom Cruise from the start of the 90s to its end: Days of Thunder, Far and Away, and Eyes Wide Shut.

The pair fell in love and married in 1990 when Kidman was only 23. After 12 years of marriage, the pair divorced in 2001.

Some of  Nicole’s best performances are To Die For (1995), Lion, (2016), and Moulin Rouge! (2001), for which she earned a nod for Best Actress at the Oscars.

Kidman has won several accolades during her 4-decade-long career that includes six Golden Globes, one BAFTA, two prime-time Emmys, and an Academy for her role in the 2003 movie the Hours.
