Tack Room Essentials
The first must have is to invest in a heavy duty clothing rack. Reason being all of those numnah’s or saddle pads however you want to call them…that you have stacked up can be displayed so that you can easily chose your horses outfit for the day or hang the numnah to dry.
This will make it super easy too for when you want to go matchy matchy!
Along with the clothing rack above, you will need some hangers to hang your numnah’s up with. Make sure you purchase trouser hangers for this:
Now we all have our whips leaning up against walls, on shelves or even just flung in the tack room somewhere on the floor ready to be damaged. It’s time to get organised with this whip storage holder!
Have them all on one place off the floor so they don’t get damaged.
Tack Room Storage Solutions
It’s super important to keep our saddles and bridles secure, especially if you cannot take your tack home each night. For security reasons I recommend a tack locker to slow down any thieves from taking off with your lovely saddle.
I have used these for years and they are an investment, but in all good reason as they are securing your valuables!
Now when it comes to your tack, you also need to think about protecting the leather from mold as this can destroy your tack. For this I suggest a bridle bag and a saddle cover.
This will also help to keep your tack clean and away from dust:
These are brands which I use and I recommend, but obviously there are cheaper options out there in the world. Unfortunately I cannot recommend these as I have not used them and I only recommend what I have used
Small Tack Room Storage Ideas
We don’t always have the luxury of a big tack room and if we do, it is usually shared with others.
For keeping our brushes in one place and to stop others thinking the brushes are theirs, a grooming box is a great idea. For some reason brush boxes seem to be quite expensive online and I am not sure where they are getting their prices from quite frankly. Here is the box I use, but mine is grey and blue!
My hope with this grooming box is that my brushes won’t end up in random places in the tack room, but mum seems to like this game….!
I actually have two of these, one for the yard and one for at the shows! This is just so I don’t have to pack every time I go out and about, I just grab my show grooming box!
Tack Room Storage Ideas on a Budget
When thinking of a budget, one of the things which has jumped to mind is keeping our rugs clean. Then surely our tack room should stay reasonably clean. All you need to do then is store your rugs clean and folded on shelves in bags.
If you are unable to afford a rug wash service, there is an option to use an equestrian wash bag at home in your washing machine:
Once they are clean, its a good idea to pack your rugs in bags in order to keep them clean for as long as possible. Vacuum bags can be a good choice and will reduce the amount of space they take up in your tack room:
As I come across more ideas, I will be sure to keep this post updated as new items become available.
