The British Foreign Secretary said David Cameron London is considering recognizing the Palestinian state, and stressed the need to show the Palestinian people irreversible progress towards a two-state solution.

Cameron explained in an interview with the BBC that Britain is considering with its allies the issue of recognizing a Palestinian state, including at the United Nations.

The British Foreign Secretary urged Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza stripHe said it was ironic that vital aid sent by Britain and other countries was being returned from the border without reaching its destination.

Cameron said that Israel has failed over the past 30 years to provide security for its citizens, and stressed that peace and progress will not be achieved without acknowledging this failure.

Earlier today, the British Foreign Office announced that Cameron will head to the Sultanate of Oman today, Tuesday, on his fourth visit to the Middle East since the beginning of the war on the Gaza Strip on October 7th.

According to the British Foreign Office, Cameron is expected to call for stability and calming tension in the Middle East amid the war on Gaza and the attacks launched by the Houthis in the Red Sea.

During this visit, Cameron will meet his Omani counterpart, Badr Al Busaidi, to discuss ways to reduce tension in the region.

Efforts to stop the war

The British Foreign Secretary said last Friday – after a tour in the region – that progress had been achieved in an effort to reach an agreement to stop the fighting in Gaza, bring in more aid and release Israeli detainees there.

Cameron stated that Israel is studying a British proposal to open the port of Ashdod to aid shipments to Gaza, but noted that the matter “will require a lot of pressure” to reach an agreement.

Cameron told reporters: (It is possible) to reach a truce in which we stop the fighting and start looking at how to bring in aid and get the hostages out. I think there is a possibility of reaching that. This is what I was talking about on my tour, and I think we are making some progress.

He added: “I was pressing for what I believe is in everyone's interest, including Israel's interest, which is to reach a truce immediately, because only then can the hostages be returned,” stressing that “Israel is responsible for what is happening in Gaza, and we must avoid exacerbating the humanitarian catastrophe.”
