A missile launch from southern Lebanon towards Israeli positions, and sirens sound in border towns News

This evening, Wednesday, 10 missiles were launched from southern Lebanon towards Israeli positions in the Western Galilee, and sirens sounded in at least 10 Israeli towns, along the border with Lebanon, according to an Al Jazeera correspondent.

Earlier today, a group of missiles launched from Southern Lebanon targeted Israeli military sites in the Shebaa Farms, after a relatively quiet night on the border between Lebanon AndIsrael.

On the other hand, Lebanese and Israeli sources said that Israel launched an intensive series of air strikes on Wadi Saluki in southern Lebanon, after a rare admission of carrying out a special operation on the border.

Lebanese security sources told Reuters that Wadi Saluki was subjected to at least 16 air strikes in a rapid and successive manner, and described these strikes as “the most intense bombardment of a single site” since the start of fighting in the border area three months ago.

The Israeli army stated that it carried out “air and artillery strikes” on sites Hizb allah And weapons infrastructure in the Saluki Valley, which is covered by forests, “in a very short time.”

He added that his special forces launched a strike in the Aita al-Shaab area in southern Lebanon to “eliminate a threat,” and that his planes also bombed a Hezbollah anti-tank missile launch pad in the area.

The Israeli army rarely acknowledges the operations of its special forces, and has not specifically said where the operation took place, or what type of threat was faced.

Hezbollah and Palestinian factions in Lebanon have exchanged intermittent daily bombardment with Israel since last October 8, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries on both sides of the border, including civilians and journalists.

Disastrous repercussions

On the other hand, the Secretary-General of the United Nations warned, António GuterresToday, any “comprehensive confrontation” between Israel and Lebanon would be “completely disastrous” in light of fears of the expansion of the war launched by Israel in the Gaza Strip.

In his speech before the World Economic Forum in the Swiss resort of Davos, Guterres affirmed his call for an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza.

He said, “The expansion of (the fighting) that we are witnessing, and the risk of a comprehensive confrontation erupting in Lebanon, would be completely disastrous. We must avoid that at all costs.”

He added that “it is very important to deal with the humanitarian situation in Gaza,” stressing that “reaching a humanitarian ceasefire is extremely important.”

Guterres reiterated his call for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and said, “I believe that the current situation has shown that the two-state solution is the basic way to solve this problem.”
