A British man who was wanted for alleged drug offences has been arrested on Spain’s Costa Blanca. The 35-year-old fugitive was apprehended in the town of Javea, north of Alicante, following an international arrest warrant. The operation to detain him involved the UK’s National Crime Agency and Metropolitan Police, as well as officers from the Spanish Civil Guard’s UCO Central Operative Unit. Spanish authorities have stated that the man is believed to have been involved in importing large quantities of cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, and money laundering into the UK. He was identified through the analysis of messages on an encrypted communications network called Encrochat. The detainee’s home was also searched, and it has been confirmed that he is associated with a criminal organization. It is uncertain at this time whether he will agree to be extradited or contest his return to the UK.
