James Cleverly cautions against wider war in the Middle East, urges Israel to prioritize restraint and minimize civilian casualties during forthcoming military invasion of Gaza, prompted by Hamas’ intentions

Hamas is hoping to provoke a larger conflict between the Muslim world and the rest of the world, according to James Cleverly, the Foreign Secretary. He has advised Israel to avoid civilian casualties during its invasion of Gaza. Cleverly revealed that he had given “strong advice” to his Israeli counterpart to exercise restraint and discipline. He acknowledged that a full-scale ground assault on the Palestinian enclave seems imminent, with hundreds of thousands of troops, tanks, and heavy weapons gathering in southern Israel. The country seeks revenge for the terrorist attack committed by Hamas a week ago, which resulted in 1,300 deaths. However, more than 2,000 civilians have since been killed in Gaza. Cleverly emphasized the importance of preserving life and avoiding civilian casualties, as Hamas is attempting to escalate the conflict into a wider war between the Muslim world and the rest of the world. He highlighted that Israel also wants to avoid such a scenario. Cleverly stressed that he expects the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to exhibit restraint and discipline, unlike Hamas, which has targeted civilians intentionally. He further stated that Hamas is encouraging civilians in northern Gaza to stay, despite IDF’s advice to leave, in order to use them as human shields. Tens of thousands of people in the UK demonstrated in support of Palestinians in Gaza. Various international organizations have called on world leaders to intervene and help Palestinians flee ahead of the coordinated offensive involving air, ground, and naval forces in the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited troops before the push into Gaza. The protests in the UK included Jeremy Corbyn and demanded Israeli restraint as civilians suffer under a total siege. Aid agencies, including Oxfam and Action Against Hunger, have urged the UK government to use its influence to prevent further suffering. Labour leader Keir Starmer called for all parties to adhere to international law and establish safe humanitarian corridors for those fleeing violence in Gaza.
