Climate change activist proudly claims collaboration between environmental activists and government officials

Climate change activist, Yaz Ashmawi, who famously threw glitter on Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, has proudly announced that environmental activists are collaborating with civil servants. Ashmawi, a strategist for Extinction Rebellion (XR), made this statement during a left-wing conference called The World Transformed in Liverpool. He highlighted that XR’s differentiated approach to protests, avoiding confrontations with the police like other activist groups such as Just Stop Oil, has allowed them to build connections with various organizations. Ashmawi emphasized that these connections range from church leaders to union members and even civil servants. However, he clarified that the specific mention of civil servants referred to the presence of public sector union members at The Big One demonstration. Public reports revealed earlier this year that staff working for Labour London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, were encouraged to join environmental campaign groups like XR through internal staff advertisements. Conservative MP Paul Bristow expressed concern that civil servants were covertly supporting these activities, arguing that ministers should prevent publicly funded personnel from participating in such actions. XR has stated that Ashmawi’s protest at the conference was not organized by the group.
