Sir Michael Caine Declares Retirement from Acting after an Exceptional Seven-Decade Career: ‘Leading Men Aren’t Found at 90!’

Sir Michael Caine, the veteran British actor, aged 90, has officially announced his retirement from acting. Confirming his decision, he stated that “you don’t have leading men at 90.” After a long and successful career spanning seven decades, with over 180 movie appearances, Sir Michael explained that he had reached a point where he didn’t think he could top his previous achievements. He recently starred in his final film, The Great Escaper, which was released just prior to his retirement announcement. Throughout his illustrious career, Sir Michael has won prestigious awards such as the Oscar, Golden Globe, and Bafta, and has starred in iconic films like Zulu, The Italian Job, Interstellar, and The Dark Knight franchise. The actor, known for his charismatic performances, made the decision to retire due to the limited roles available for actors in their 90s. In his last movie, he portrayed a World War Two veteran who escapes from a care home to attend D-Day celebrations. Sir Michael, who has been using a walking stick for five years due to a fall and spinal surgery, believes that the only roles he would be offered now are for elderly characters. He mentioned that he had previously declined appearing in The Great Escaper three times before ultimately accepting the role because he considered himself retired. Sir Michael’s retirement coincides with the upcoming release of his novel Deadly Game. Offering advice for a long and happy life, he suggests marrying a younger woman, avoiding snacking, wearing trainers, and staying cautious to prevent accidents. Sir Michael has been married to model Shakira Baksh since 1973, and they have a daughter, Natasha, and three grandchildren who he says keep him youthful.
