Shocked Londoners have captured videos of individuals tearing down posters of kidnapped Israeli citizens in the name of Palestine. One incident on Oxford Street involved a man expressing satisfaction after removing the appeals. In one video, a young couple can be seen taking down a poster and engaging in an argument with an Israeli eyewitness. Jonathan, who did not disclose his last name for safety reasons, confronted the couple as they ripped up posters along the street. He noted that the man was aggressive and repeatedly shouted “Free Palestine,” denying the evidence of children being kidnapped. Jonathan, who holds Israeli and British citizenship, also recorded another altercation in Marylebone, where two women removed a poster from a nearby tree outside a café. Jonathan expressed shock at their action, saying, “We have a woman here who just ripped up a poster of a small baby.” The woman appeared disinterested in the disruption she caused, while the man smirked and accused the person filming of lying about Hamas atrocities. Another video showed two women tearing down posters showing innocent Israeli children who were taken hostage by Hamas, with one of the women declaring, “This is for Palestine!” The British-Israeli woman who filmed the encounter, Neta Fibeesh, recounted receiving verbal abuse from members of the public while distributing the flyers in north London. Fibeesh, a 23-year-old PhD student, expressed concerns for her Jewish friends who have faced hostility on the streets of Britain, including hiding their religion to avoid abuse. She noted that the situation has been “unpleasant” and “upsetting” since her return to the UK. Fibeesh and her mother were putting up posters featuring kidnapped Israelis around Mornington Crescent when individuals tore them down. Two women aggressively removed the flyers, leading to a confrontation filmed by Fibeesh. She explained that the issue at hand is not mutually exclusive and emphasized that innocent people and children are involved. Fibeesh said that the past week had been devastating, with the abduction of a close family friend. She also expressed feeling safer in the UK compared to a war zone but emphasized the unpleasantness and upset prevalent in the country.
