One of the individuals accused of torturing and killing a Turkish DJ, who was subjected to severe physical abuse, has stated that he was hired only as muscle to intimidate the victim. Steffan Gordon, 34, confessed to kidnapping DJ Koray Alpergin, 43, but claimed that he thought it was just going to be a drug robbery and that he was helping “some Turkish guys” to receive a portion of the profits from an illegal job. Mr. Alpergin’s body was found near the Oakwood Hill Industrial Estate in Loughton, Essex, after being tortured to death. An autopsy revealed 94 separate injuries on his body. Mr. Alpergin was the owner of Turkish radio station Bizim FM and had connections with celebrities such as rapper P Diddy and internet sensation ‘Salt Bae’. He and his girlfriend, Gozde Dalbudak, 34, were kidnapped outside their flat in Enfield and taken to a wine bar, where Alpergin was beaten, burned, stabbed, and later killed. Dalbudak was locked in a toilet for two days. The accused men, Gordon, Tejean Kennedy, 33, Samuel Owusu-Opuku, 35, and Junior Kettle, 32, deny the charges. Kennedy, Owusu-Opuku, and Kettle also deny kidnapping. Gordon claimed that he overheard the Turkish men discussing the plan to intimidate and question the victim, but he did not realize the severity of the situation until later. He described his role as just placing the victim into a van. The trial continues.
