Important Information for Passengers: London Luton Car Park Fire – Is Your Flight Affected? Stay Updated Following Enormous Blaze and £20m Structure Collapse

Up to 50,000 passengers are currently experiencing disruption as London Luton Airport is closed due to a vehicle fire that caused a car park to collapse. Since the fire started last night, over 140 flights scheduled to depart or arrive at the airport today have been cancelled. Flights will remain suspended until at least 3pm this afternoon and passengers with flights before then are advised not to go to the airport. The fire occurred in the new terminal car park, resulting in the destruction of hundreds of cars. The worst-affected airline is easyJet, which had to cancel 79 flights, followed by Wizz Air and Ryanair. Some flights were diverted to other UK airports such as Stansted, Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff, and Bristol. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed, but it is believed to have started with a diesel car. The fire has now been controlled and extinguished, with emergency services remaining at the scene. Passengers are advised to check with their airline regarding the status of their flights. If a flight is delayed for more than two hours, airlines must provide support such as food, drink, and reimbursement for phone calls. If the delay is overnight, they must provide accommodation and transport. Compensation for flight cancellations may not be applicable in this situation due to it being an air traffic control issue. Trains and buses are still operating, although the services on the Luton Dart shuttle have been suspended. Several roads in the area are closed, and it is estimated that up to 1,200 cars in the affected site have been damaged. Parking at Luton Airport is currently fully booked until October 27.
