British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly expresses unwavering support as he meets with Israeli hostages previously held by Hamas, while visiting the country amid the unfortunate loss or disappearance of 17 Britons.

James Cleverly, the Foreign Secretary, expressed unwavering support for Israel during his visit to the country following the recent terrorist attacks by Hamas. He met with survivors of the attacks and high-ranking Israeli leaders to demonstrate the UK’s solidarity. A video released by Israel’s foreign ministry showed Cleverly talking with Rachel Adari, who managed to calm the fighters that invaded her home by offering them cookies and coffee during a 15-hour ordeal. Cleverly stated that a significant number of British-Israeli nationals had been affected by the conflict, with at least seventeen British nationals feared dead or missing. The UK and US governments have firmly backed Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration in response to the incursion by Palestinian terrorists. Despite concerns of potential escalation, the UK government has not provided confirmed figures due to the rapidly evolving situation. Notably, Nathanel Young and Bernard Cowan have been confirmed dead, while Jack Marlowe is missing, and photographer Dan Darlington is feared dead. Cleverly’s visit also prompted criticism from Britons in Israel, who accused the Foreign Office of insufficient efforts to assist their return to the UK. Commercial flights from Israel to British airports have been suspended by major airlines due to safety concerns arising from the violence.
